Why School-to-School Partnerships?

Partnerships with schools in other countries can help us understand that we now have to peer beyond our own individual communities or even nations. We have to start thinking of ourselves as being citizens of the world.

Partnership activities help to:

  • develop a better understanding of the world we live in
  • compare and contrast the values and attitudes we carry
  • work against prejudice and xenophobia
  • provide opportunities to act as global citizens
  • encourage understanding and friendship

Partnerships also help raise levels of literacy; assists in learning to speak a foreign language; and demonstrates how to learn to work towards shared goals. MORE...

Where Do You Stand With Respect To School-to-School Partnerships?

Do you have untapped resources that could foster global awareness?

  • Often, there may be some teachers in your school who are involved in projects that focus on an aspect of life in another country.
  • There may be a time when the whole school works on a world multicultural event.
  • Draw on teachers who may have been on an international exchange.

Perhaps your school has gone a little further.

  • There may be a number of teachers from a range of subjects who have begun to integrate global issues and awareness into their lessons.
  • There may be whole school activities focusing on a world project.
  • One class might be pen pals with students in another country.
  • There may be visits abroad and global exchanges by some students and/or teachers.

Are you already set to be known as "Global Citizens"? Does your school have

  • Cross curricular activites in place?
  • Curriculum-based activities to draw awareness to global connections?
  • Collaborative work with partner schools?
  • A majority of students aware and involved?
  • Year round activities?
  • Involvement of the wider community?
